From asking for recipe ideas using the food in your pantry to boosting revenue at your recruitment agency, Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly used for tasks across our work and personal lives.

But as steeped into our current day it’s become, how well does AI know the future? And, in particular, the future of work?

We asked AI for its predictions on jobs of the future – specifically, what it thinks will be essential and in high demand 100 years from now.

JobAdder’s Talent Acquisition Lead, Victoria Cleghorn, has over 15 years’ experience in the recruitment industry. She says that some of AI’s predictions for future jobs could be plausible, and it really highlights how AI and emerging technologies can potentially complement human skills across multiple industries.

“AI’s prediction of employment opportunities a century from now are fascinating and offer insights into how emerging technologies may require the workforce to upskill, with new and exciting career opportunities on the horizon,” she says.

Let’s dive in and see what AI thinks is in store for our workforce.

10 jobs of the future (according to AI)

1. AI Ethicists and Navigators

ChatGPT predicts: As AI advances, experts in AI ethics and navigation will likely be in demand to manage ethical considerations, ensure AI aligns with human values, and navigate complex legal and societal issues.

Victoria says: “I anticipate demand for AI Ethicists and Navigators could be a strong future job as they’ll be needed to shape moral uses of the technology, especially in areas prone to biases. These professionals will ensure businesses use AI responsibly to operate transparently and fairly.

Online activity is already showing interest in these topics, with searches for ‘AI ethical issues’ increasing by 809 per cent globally over the last five years. Online searches for ‘responsible AI’ have also increased by 2275 per cent over that same period, indicating that this is already on the minds of many.”

2. Human-Machine Collaboration Specialists

ChatGPT predicts: These professionals would optimise human-machine interactions, ensuring technology enhances productivity and creativity without displacing human roles.

Victoria says: “Much like AI Ethicists and Navigators, Human-Machine Collaboration Specialists could be essential in fostering collaboration between humans and technology to ensure it’s used optimally and ethically. I anticipate there could be strong demand for this profession, possibly even sooner than 2125.”
