Everyone is chatting about ChatGPT at the moment (sorry for the pun, I had to!) so I thought I\u2019d explore how to use ChatGPT in recruitment and what it means for the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First off, it\u2019s important to note that the recruitment industry will continue to evolve as it has in the past, which means we\u2019ll see more and more attention on automation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With the cooling of the market in 2023<\/a>, recruiters are going to have more time to breathe and focus on business development<\/a>. This will allow them to think about their pipeline longer term and take a hard look at where they\u2019re focusing and how they\u2019re diversifying to deal with the softening of the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I always say this but it\u2019s so important to tool up. This is your time to get more efficient. If you\u2019re running super fast throughout 2022 and things are slowing down, make sure that you\u2019re training up your team<\/a>, utilising your tech stack in the best possible way and continuing to invest in learning and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The party’s not over but things have got to get a little bit leaner. I think that’s the evolution and I do get really passionate about how tech can play a role (as you\u2019d expect!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Automation is going to continue to be a bigger and bigger trend. The reason why ChatGPT is such a topic right now is probably because it’s the most usable, tangible and real-life example since Siri was introduced of artificial intelligence (AI). <\/p>\n\n\n\n To get into some basics of ChatGPT\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n It’s a generative pre-trained transformer, so essentially it’s just a set of deep-learning algorithms. What sets it apart is that it’s actually reinforced by human feedback, that’s why it works so well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT<\/a>, explain it like so: \u201cWe\u2019ve trained a model called ChatGPT which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tech is only good if it’s actually helping humans. It shouldn\u2019t be a crutch and it won\u2019t replace recruitment. It won’t replace completely how you do job orders or job descriptions, but it can help a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It allows you to go faster and it allows you to be a bit smarter. It doesn’t mean that you should be releasing ownership of the actual recruitment process<\/a>, it just means you can improve the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s not a crutch, it\u2019s an accelerator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In our recent webinar exploring global recruitment trend<\/a>s, I discussed this topic with JobAdder\u2019s recruitment advisor Greg Savage<\/a> and he said that he\u2019s taken a crash course in ChatGPT to understand its potential impact on the recruitment sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI’ve tested and researched ChatGPT and it’s going to do incredible things to some parts of the recruitment job that are tedious, laborious, time-consuming and not done very well by recruiters. For example, ChatGPT can look through a job spec and come up with 10 questions you should ask, ChatGPT can write a job ad for you, it can write a resume for you and much more. That’s going to be fantastic.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n While these benefits are exciting, Greg did warn that it could hurt some recruiters. \u201cThe recruiters it’s going to hurt are those who are totally transactional and spend all their time on those activities and that’s the only value they bring.
