Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions and the emotions of others. Leaders with high emotional intelligence may have the ability to understand their own emotions and see the effect on themselves and others. They may also have knowledge of their own gifts and shortcomings and possess a good sense of self-worth and of their own abilities. Effective emotionally intelligent leaders generally have the ability to think and act with optimism, as well as the desire to seize opportunities to contribute to the greater good.
