A panel interview is where a candidate is typically interviewed by two or more interviewers at the same time. It is seen as an efficient way to assess the suitability of an applicant without the need to have them return mutiple times, thus speeding up the hiring process. It also allows the interviewers to gauge the ability of the candidate to deal with pressure and finally, to ensure the hiring decision is a mutally agreeable one. Candidates are asked at least one question by each interviewer although rapid-fire questions are not uncommon.
